<Letter to the Argus> <May 1> Wednesday May 1. 1839. The following Letter was commucatd [communicated] to the “Quin[c]y Argus,” (a weekly Newspaper for publicat[io]n published at ) “To the Editor (J. see let) ”.
<H[ugh] White. purchase> I this day purchased, in connexion with others of the committe[e] a farm of Hugh White, consisting of 13.5 135 acres, for the sum of $5,000 dollars, also a farm of Dr. < purchase> lying west of the White farm purchase. for the sum of $9,000; both of which were to be deeded to . according to the council of the committee: but delar[e]d that “no committe should contact any property which he had any thing to do with.” consequ[en]tly the purchase was deeded to , ’s son-in-law. but paid for by the . with the express understanding that he should deed it to the church, when the chuch had paid for it, which they were <according to their> obligation to in the contract.
A letter was recevd [received] by the presidny [presidency] of the church in then at , from President , stating that Isaac Russel[l] had apostatized. & had led and was the & stiled himself the Prophet, as Joseph had fallen.— said the spirit signifed to him that Russel was secretly trying to lead away the church at Alston. Eng. & wished the Elder to see to it.— The spirit had signifed manifstd [manifested] the same thing to . & he was deputed by <a council of the> <presdeny> to visit the church in <at>. Alston .
